QUALIFICATIONS

The Troop Training Coordinator must meet BSA membership requirements, be at least 21 years of age, and register with the Boy Scouts of America as an adult leader. The Troop Training Coordinator is selected by the troop committee, with the approval of the charter organization. Complete troop committee Fast Start Training, Youth Protection Training, New Leader Essentials and Troop Committee Challenge. Should also have Weather Hazards, Safe Swim Defense, Safety Afloat, Climb On Safely, Trek Safety, and Risk Management. For new troops and those lacking experienced leaders, an experienced leader from the district training team or another troop may be appointed as Troop Trainer until the new leaders gain experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Troop Training Chairperson is responsible for: Conducting orientation of new families and troop leaders. Conducting other training as designated by the district and/or council. Encouraging troop leaders to attend ongoing training, such as Roundtable, Pow Wow or University of Scouting, Outdoor Training, Youth Protection Training, and Wood Badge. Remaining current with training material and program updates. Keeping track of troop training records. T100 Trained Adults Ensure troop leaders and committee members have opportunities for training. Maintain an inventory of up-to-date training materials, videotapes, and other training resources. Work with the district training team in scheduling leader specific training for all new leaders. Be responsible for BSA Youth Protection training within the troop. Youth Protection Resources Encourage periodic junior leader training within the troop and at the council and national levels. Report to the troop committee at each meeting. The Troop Trainer seeks 100% of the troop leadership trained in their position responsibilities. New leaders and adult family members should receive orientation within one week of joining the troop, and leaders should receive position specific training within 30 days.
