QUALIFICATIONS

The Troop Secretary must meet BSA membership requirements, be at least 21 years of age, and register with the Boy Scouts of America as an adult leader.

The Troop Secretary is selected by the troop committee, with the approval of the charter organization.

Complete troop committee Fast Start Training, Youth Protection Training, New Leader Essentials and Troop Committee Challenge.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Keep informed of all Boy Scouting literature, materials, records, and forms to help leaders function effectively. Help new leaders by telling them what resources are available.

Acquaint leaders with the contents of the Troop Record Book so that they will know how to supply the information that should be recorded there.

  • Maintain up-to-date information on membership, leadership, attendance, and advancement in the Troop Record Book.
  • Maintain an inventory of troop property.
  • Handle correspondence for the troop. This may include writing letters of appreciation and requests for reservations, or ordering supplies through the local council service center.
  • Keep notes on business conducted at troop leaders' meetings. Record only key items such as things needing follow-up or items for the history of the troop.
  • Notify leaders of troop leaders' meetings and other activities.
  • Provide leaders with records and forms for meetings.
  • Keep minutes of meetings and send out committee meeting notices.
  • Provide meeting minutes within one week after a meeting for posting on the web site.
