QUALIFICATIONS

The Troop Outdoors Activities Coordinator must meet BSA membership requirements, be at least 21 years of age, and register with the Boy Scouts of America as an adult leader.

The Troop Outdoors Activities Coordinator is selected by the troop committee, with the approval of the charter organization.

Complete troop committee Fast Start Training, Youth Protection Training, New Leader Essentials and Troop Committee Challenge.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Help the Scoutmaster plan and arrange for monthly outdoor activities.
  • Arrange for property, fire, and tour permits when required.
  • Locate new picnic, hiking and camping areas.
  • Arrange for safe transportation when needed.
  • Plan first aid for emergencies.
  • Help arrange for equipment, as needed.
  • Arrange for Safe Swim Defense implementation for all outings involving swimming.
  • Plan outings to help troop and patrols qualify for the National Camping Award.
  • Help inform parents and guardians about opportunities for family camping.
  • Ensure that at least one adult has completed Outdoor Leadership Skills before any troop campout.
  • Help promote resident camp opportunities.
  • Be aware of BSA health and safety requirements and see that they are implemented.
  • Know and carry out BSA outdoor program policy related to Boy Scouting.
  • Review all activities to ensure that unit leaders comply with BSA policies in the Guide to Safe Scouting.
  • Promote, through family meetings, attendance at troop campouts, camporees, and summer camp to reach the goal of one outing per month.
  • Secure tour permits for all troop activities.
  • Supervise and help the troop procure camping equipment.
  • Work with the quartermaster on inventory and proper storage and maintenance of all troop equipment.
  • Make periodic safety checks on all troop camping gear, and encourage troop in safe use of all outdoor equipment.
  • Report to the troop committee at each meeting.
