Prepared by Jim Szpakowski
Effective
immediately Eagle Scout Services will no longer accept Eagle
Scout applications without the Scout's full legal name.
Please take steps to inform all Boy Scout troops, Varsity
teams, and Venturing crews in your district. The full
legal name is required because since 1912, over 1.6 million
Eagle Scout ranks have been certified. When Eagle Scouts ask
to have their Eagle Scout status verified for the military,
or college, or job application, Eagle Scout Services has a
hard time determining who someone is in light duplicate
names. Additionally Eagle Scout Services receive weekly
calls from men who claim they earned the Eagle rank 30 or
more years ago and wish duplicate certificates. However,
many times they don't remember the year, council, or unit
number.

1. Get all of the other required signatures first b. Scoutmaster/Eagle Coach c. Committee Approval 2. Call the District Advancement Chairman to schedule a
meeting b. The best time to call is between the time the Scout
gets home from school and 6:30pm c. The worst time to call is Mon.- Thurs. after
6:30pm d. If you left a message and have not heard back
within 48 hours call again e. If you do not have call waiting/voice mail, do not
expect Mr. Rice to make repeated attempts to return
your call 3. Meetings will be held either on a Monday night at
Christ United Methodist Church or at Mr. Rice's home 4. Scouts must be in full field uniform (merit badge sash
is not required). 5. Be on time! Especially if you are meeting at Mr. Rice's home. If you are going to more than 5 minutes
late, have the courtesy to call and let him know that you
are running late. 6. Be prepared! That means bring everything with you
related to the project. 7. If a parent is bringing you to the meeting, the parent
should NOT plan on sitting in on the meeting. If the meeting
is at Christ United Methodist, they should wait with the
other adults attending the meeting. If the meeting is at Mr. Rice's house, they should be prepared to wait outside in
the car. Parents should not drop the Scout off at Mr. Rice's house with instructions to call them when
finished. 8. Bring something to take notes with. There is a good
chance that suggestions will be made for project
improvements, or if the project is not approved on the first
visit, the Scout will be told what needs to be done to
obtain approval. 9. If the project is not approved at the first meeting,
do not get discouraged. Just get busy completing the items
that are deficient.
