SHAC ADULT CONSERVATION AWARD

The Sam Houston Area Council has initiated a new council conservation award for adults. Administered by the SHAC Conservation Committee, the new award is intended to stimulate interest in conservation among area Scouters as well as knowledge and service in various areas related to conservation of our natural resources.

TENURE

Complete two (2) years as registered Scouter.

TRAINING-Earn 6 points

Complete New Leader Essentials and Position-Specific training for your position-or the previous equivalent basic training [1 point]
Complete Project WILD course (6 hours minimum) [2 points]
Complete Project Aquatic WILD course (6 hours minimum) [2 points]
Complete Project WILD Facilitator course [4 points]
Complete Hornaday Advisor training [1 point]
Complete Ecology and Plants & Wildlife Consultant training [1 point]
Conservation-related courses at Cub POW-WOW or University of Scouting will be worth one [1] point each.
Complete any conservation-related course of study offered by the B.S.A., SHAC, or a recognized public agency-for example, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Master Naturalist Program. POINTS TO BE DETERMINED-Contact SHAC Conservation Committee.
Design and complete a course of self-study. POINTS TO BE DETERMINED-Contact SHAC Conservation Committee.

SERVICE-Earn 10 points

Act as a counselor for one or more of the following merit badges: Energy, Environmental Science, Fish and Wildlife Management, Forestry, Public Health, Soil and Water Conservation, Atomic Energy, Bird Study, Fishing, Gardening, Geology, Insect Study, Landscape Architecture, Mammal Study, Nature, Oceanography, Plant Science, Pulp and Paper, Reptile and Amphibian Study, Weather. For every two boys who successfully complete a merit badge, you may receive 1 point and there is a 4-point maximum for this category.
Act as a consultant for one or more of the following Ranger Award electives: Ecology, Plants & Wildlife. For every Venturer who successfully completes an elective, you may receive 3 points and there is no maximum for this category.
Conduct/facilitate a Project WILD or Project Aquatic WILD course [3 points]
Actively volunteer for a continuous period of one year for a conservation-oriented organization-for example, Jesse Jones Park, Texas State Parks, etc. POINTS TO BE DETERMINED-Contact SHAC Conservation Committee.
Coordinate a major portion of a SHAC Conservation Program-for example, the Ecology Merit Badge Weekend. POINTS TO BE DETERMINED-Contact SHAC Conservation Committee.
Act as a Hornaday Advisor for a Scout or Venturer. For each successful award application (badge and/or medal), you may receive 4 points and there is no maximum for this category.
Act as a Hornaday/Conservation Advisor for a Scout unit (pack, troop, crew, team, ship) working toward a Hornaday Unit Citation. For each successful award application, you may receive 2 points and there is no maximum for this category.
Actively volunteer for a recognized conservation event-for example, Trash Bash. POINTS TO BE DETERMINED-Contact SHAC Conservation Committee.
